Certain foods can cause allergic reactions that affect the skin, respiratory tract, gastrointestinal tract, and in serious cases, the cardiovascular system. These reactions can range from mild to severe, and can be potentially life-threatening if not promptly diagnosed and the trigger food avoided. According to the American College of Allergy, Asthma & Immunology, approximately 5% of children under age 5 and 4% of kids between 5 and 17 years old have at least one food allergy.
